NEW DEVELOPMENTS

Dr. Ratush is one of a few innovative psychiatrists in the United States of America pioneering the use of NeuroStar. The first FDA approved magnet treatment for Major Depression. He refers to TMS (trans-cranial magnetic stimulation) as the "no pain ECT" and envisions TMS revolutionizing Depression treatment.

As an Addictionologist, Dr. Ratush recognizes that while recovery starts at the end of Detox it goes on the the remainder of an addicted persons life. Thats why RecoverMD provides those individuals that are addicted to opioids a complimentary assortment of modalities such as Biofeedback, Hypnosis, Acupuncture, Yoga, Nutrition, and Neurolinguistic Programing to the conventional treatments of group and individual psychotherapy. CLINICAL INTERESTS

Dr. Ratush is dedicated to merging disciplines designed to alleviate mental anguish so that when used in combination a more robust result is achieved.

Dr. Ratush is excited about introducing TMS (Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation) treatment to the downtown Manhattan area. In addition to successfully utilizing this innovative modality in clinical practice he is a dedicated collaborator for the advancement of technology assisted treatments for psychological and neurological conditions. As the Medical Director for The Center for Great Expectations, Dr. Ratush has a vested interest in providing state of the art psychiatric care for pregnant and nursing mothers. He is very excited to offer Neurostar TMS to these women so that they can rest assured that unlike with medications, there are no systemic side effects and no exogenous molecules being passed on to their child during gestation or when nursing.

Because less then half of us take medications as directed, Dr. Ratush is interested in better understanding this phenomenon. He explores the dynamics of the doctor patient relationship and how it facilitates treatment adherence. Clinically Dr. Ratush strives to achieve the most collaborative approach possible when treating his patients.

Side Effects are a leading cause of why many people stop effective treatment with medications. Dr. Ratush is developing a program for the treatment of medication induced side effects so that the severity of any medication side effect can be reduced. Dr. Ratush firmly believes that rigorous exercise, dedicated psychotherapy and a spiritual practice can and often does reduce a patients pharmaceutical load (number of medications and their respective doses). He is also interested in using nutriceutical products to augment and or reduce the need for pharmaceuticals. Using herbal remedies when appropriate can magnify a wanted effect or allow for a dose of a medication with side effects to be reduced.

A particular interest of Dr. Ratush is the interplay of mental health disorders and substance use disorders. Since most people with a substance use disorder have a primary mental health condition simple paradigms of treatment often fail. And while it seems from the outside to be "just another relapse" often this behavior is a testament of inappropriate, improper or ineffective treatment for the mental health condition. Dr. Ratush is committed to improving recovery rates for his patients, in NY and NJ and in every city and town in America. Through education, innovation, compassionate care of those he treats and dedication to his specialty.
